As Clare finished the monetization training within the Authority Site Center I was interested to hear her plans. Did she want to use my Adsense account to set up a few channels for her blog? “No I’m not going with Adsense, Jack’s not keen.”
Jack being Jack Humphrey, her mentor and owner of The Authority Site Center. It seems he made a strong point about how she was supposed to be building THE authority site in her chosen niche and Adsense lowers the tone some what unless you can just stick to a small block.
Personally I love the ease of Adsense and in my business model of build blog after blog it fits in nicely. If you’re not sure which affiliate programs work in the niche and you don’t want to spend time testing just use a good Adsense ready theme, set a stack of PLR articles to drip feed into it, do some promoting and then move on to the next niche.
I do take his point though that its too easy to end up with a page full of Google ads. She may start with just the one block but once she got a few clicks it would be easy for her to start thinking about using more and before you know it she’d have what would appear to be a made for Adsense site which is just what she is trying to avoid by building an authority site.
One other suprise was that he liked the review model that I favor when I do promote affiliate programs but he did it different to the way I was taught at Wealthy Affiliate. The way I was shown and still do it with success was to find the best 3 products in the niche and rank them as first, second and third. That way if the visitor doesn’t agree with your choice, you may still get the sale.
Jack recommends having only 1 link on the page to the sales page of your number 1 choice because he says by offering choices you encourage indecision and can end up with no click thru’s. He’s tested this to death and claims he gets far better results when using this method. I have no reason to doubt him and I will be trying it on the next one I set up or to better test it I may change one that is already up and running so I can compare the numbers.
Not suprisingly he recommends affiliate programs only as a stop gap while you produce your own product or set up a paid members only section. The members only doesn’t really fit in with her niche so she says she will be putting together her own ebook. It just so happened I had 2 PLR ebooks sat on my drive for her niche so she is modifying them. One will be a giveaway for signing up to her ezine as well as promoting the second one which she will be selling.
Traffic wise her site continues to grow on a daily basis and yesterday pulled in 358 visitors which I find pretty incredible for a site so young. She starts the Authority Site Center 60 day traffic building plan next week which she was told at the plans introduction webinar she attended on Tuesday will see around a 10 fold increase in her traffic by the end of the 60 days.
The traffic the site already gets put it in the top half in her group of new members with the best performing getting close to 500 although they didn’t all start on exactly the same day. The average in her group seems to be around the 250 mark with none getting less than 200 and I would imagine all things being equal that the variation would depend on the traffic available within the chosen niches.
