Reseller Hosting With 9 Unique IP Addresses
Written by ady on September 15, 2008 – 2:21 pm -Some argue that having a group of your sites all hosted on the one reseller hosting account is asking for trouble because they all share the same IP address. I don’t know whether this is true or not but I do know when I upgrade one of my sites from my reseller hosting to it’s own with dedicated IP address I always see a sharp increase in traffic.
I still use reseller hosting though because its by far the cheapest option. Hosting 100 sites at around $50 a year each is just not feasable while the sites are young and not making any money but $240 a year for those same 100 on my reseller hosting is more than reasonable.
I treat my reseller hosting as a farm. I plant my new blogs and see if they take. If they do I ugrade them to their own hosting and add a dedicated IP address to it. I can afford to do this because the site by then is more than paying for itself.
What I do avoid is cross linking my related sites because of the problem of having the same IP address but I’ve recently tried a new reseller hosting account that should do away with this problem, at least some of it.
This reseller hosting package has 9 different servers spread around the globe and when you set up a new blog in your account you get to pick which server you put it on. Each of course has a different IP address so the benefits are obvious. I can have 9 health related blogs cross linked without worry of it being seen as spam.
I signed up because I needed another account as my other 2 reseller accounts are just about full. It certainly won’t do any harm having 9 different IP addresses to play about with rather than just the one but I will still be upgrading any sites that take off.
